Emerald Green Kitchen

Beautiful bespoke kitchen for a classic tenement flat
What's cooking in this kitchen?A very cool collection of contrasting colours...

Loving our work on Instagram, Brian approached us about making a birch plywood kitchen for his tenement flat in Glasgow: a perfect space for a new kitchen and dining room table. Like most tenements in the city this flat has bags of character, with unusual nooks and crannies and traditional features, not to mention the wonderful wooden floorboards. It was the ideal canvas for a funky, fresh kitchen.

Ideas

Brian wanted to use Birch Plywood for his kitchen cupboards and drawers - a strong, sustainable and resilient choice of wood. It's perfect for a kitchen and it's light colour is pleasing to the eye. He wanted a splash back that would contrast nicely with the light wood, so we suggested black Valchromat. Brian's flat has a north facing kitchen window, with little amount of natural light, and he needed a material at the sink that would reflect light. We suggested Hi-Macs material and he decided on the unusual choice of Emerald Green. It works so well: lighting up the room and almost glowing in the dark - a great choice for this kitchen. The contrasting colours and materials complement one another to give a playful, cheerful and uplifting space. Pegboards are used throughout the kitchen for extra displays and storage.

Bringing the drawings to life

The Birchply drawers and doors were cut using a CNC machine, then sanded, varnished and constructed by hand. The Hi-Macs worktop was glued to the fused sink to give a seamless finish. A feature cupboard was created for the corner of the kitchen, adding texture and pattern.

here's what the client had to say

"

Threefourfive/KitCaboose transformed my tenement kitchen into to what is now unquestionably my favourite room. Their design and cabinetry skills are first rate - they provided me with a range of options and came up with a functional and beautiful solution to the idiosyncrasies of the room with quality materials ad superior workmanship. From start to finish no feature was too small to not receive thoughtful consideration and careful execution. They clearly take pride in their craft and it shows.
