Helen's ideas included a series of modular cabinets that could be easily put together and moved if necessary. Her heart was set on having a large, traditional planchest to store all her materials and drawings. This HUGE planchest can also be used as a surface for cutting on. Helen works with concrete in her paintings, therefore it was essential that the units and drawers were robust and strong. At the back of the room she incorporated a large pegboard with shelves for additional space to store all her bits and bobs. Helen decided on the Kenmuir handle design for the cabinets - giving a cool retro vibe to the furniture.
Helen's cabinets were made from Birchply which is beautiful, strong and light in colour. Her cabinets and planchest were cut on the CNC machine and sanded, varnished and assembled by hand. Knowng that Helen uses concrete in her work, we made structural back panels and doubled up the internal stretches to take the weight. Every stage was carried out with bundles of care and precision to ensure a flawless finish. The planchest’s A0 drawers have an extra deep back retainer and it's top doubles as a cutting surface. The Threefourfive team took to the road to transport the furniture from Glasgow to Manchester, to be lovingly installed in the space.
